Hate Crime
Hate Crime Hate Crime scars its victims beyond the legacy of any physical injury. If it is not professionally and successfully countered, its effect can create alarm and fear, undermining the fabric of social cohesion. Warwickshire Police is committed to tackling all aspects of hate crime. We are aware of the unique needs and vulnerability of hate crime victims and our duty to provide a common standard of response and quality of service.

In order to ensure that the victim’s first contact with Warwickshire Police is professional and appropriate we are launching a new
Hate Crime Help Line 0845 129 2221

The staff that answer these calls will be aware that there may be considerations present in terms of language, religion, disability and cultural/lifestyle backgrounds and will do their utmost to meet the diverse needs of each victim.Hate crime can have a devastating effect on the quality of life of its victims, those who fear becoming victims and the community.
Hate crime victims face the added trauma of knowing that the perpetrator’s motivation may be impersonal group hatred, relating to some feature that they share with others. An incident, that might normally have a minor impact, becomes, with the hate element, a very intimate and hurtful attack that is likely to undermine the victim’s quality of life.
This impact is amplified further because hate crime is an under-reported category of incident. An offender can often keep the same victim or group of victims locked in isolation and fear by keeping the extent of each attack at a level where it is unlikely to be reported.

Where a hate attack causes little or no visible damage, victims often fear that police will not listen to them, believe them or treat them with respect. This fear even extends to the victims of extremely violent Hate Crime. Warwickshire Police aims to change this, inspiring confidence through the sustained delivery of a high quality service to victims, hence the creation of a dedicated Hate Crime Help Line.

Police Surgeries for Trident
The Whitnash Safer Neighbourhood Team is currently arranging to hold Police Surgeries at the Trident Centre of Warwickshire College on Poseidon Way. We are hoping to hold these surgeries with the assistance of the Warwick Central SNT who cover the majority of the Warwick Gates estate.

The Trident Centre falls right on the border-line between the Whitnash and Warwick Safer Neighbourhood Team boundaries. However, as students from the college work, live and use facilities in both SNT areas it was thought a good idea to hold these surgeries together with an officer from each team attending.

The plan has received excellent feedback from authorities at the college with the Head of Engineering Tony Parkin and the Dean of the college giving it their full backing.
Police Surgeries for Trident It is hoped that the surgeries will begin around the middle of March and will be held on a different day once a fortnight to include students on day release from their workplace.

Further details will be published on this site and around the college when the date of the first surgery has been set.

New Safer Neighbourhood Priorities
At the latest Safer Neighbourhood Panel meeting, held on 30th January '08, there was a change of Safer Neighbourhood Priorities.

Our new priorities are as follows:

- To combat the number of Criminal Damage incidences within the SNT area of Whitnash Town, focusing on graffiti and mindless vandalism.
- To aim to reduce outbreaks of Anti-Social Behaviour reported in the Town.

- To reduce the problems around illegal, irresponsible and dangerous car parking in the area, with the main targets on the four main primary schools on Coppice Road, Rowley Road and Langley Road.

The Panel also agreed that the problem of people cycling on the pavement in Whitnash was also becoming a concern and therefore the Team have been asked to address this also.

New Police Inspector for Leamington
New Police Inspector for Leamington Inspector Robin Clifton has taken over duties as the Officer in charge of all Leamington Sector Safer Neighbourhood Teams. He takes over from Acting Inspector Adrian Davis who we thank for all his work during his time in post. Hopefully Inspector Clifton will become a familiar face in the area as his duties take him all over the Leamington Sector.
