Police in Leamington have set up a Temple Watch scheme in a bid to integrate and inform members of the Asian community.
The scheme was formally launched on Sunday December 17 at the Sikh Temple in Tachbrook Park Drive in the presence of Chief Superintendent Richard Sear and Chief Inspector Mike Slemensek.
Sgt Manjith Johal, who has been involved in a similar scheme in another force, explained: "It can be difficult for some members of the Asian community to access police information and advice because of the language barrier and cultural differences.
"We hope that by having a regular presence at the temple we will be able to break down those barriers, encourage people to report crimes and ask for any help and advice they need.
"Officers will be available at a surgery at the temple once a month and there will also be a notice board with police information and contact details for issues such as domestic violence.
"This has proved successful before and I hope that it will be here.”
