PACT Meeting Update
On 21st May we had the follow up meeting of the PACT panel to discuss the issues that were raised at the meeting on 28th April 2008.

Having reviewed the information gathered at the meeting we were able to make the following decisions:

1) Due to the fact that a number of locations were identified as suffering from similar problems a small working party has been established which includes the Police and the County Council, with the aim of producing an action plan to address anti social behaviour across the area. It was identified that issues such as criminal damage, rowdy/nuisance behaviour, underage drinking and vandalism all fall under the banner of anti social behaviour. The Police will of course enforce the law in the short term but it is hoped that this working party can provide a multi-agency approach to providing long-term solutions and initiatives.
2) The panel will keep speeding and related problems as a priority area. The police will continue to conduct random speed checks at locations across the area, and the use of the 'speed aware' signs (temporary flashing signs notifying drivers of their speed) will continue to be utilised across the area. Also under this area the issue of 'Street Racers' will be addressed. The Police will look to enforce Road Traffic legislation and undertake specific operations aimed at enforcement but also educating the perpetrators about the danger they cause to themselves and others. The panel will also be working together looking at long-term solutions.

The relevant partners will address the remaining issues that were raised including lighting, parking and road markings as soon as possible.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting.

Speeding Day Sucsess
Members of the public in North Leamington identified the issue of speeding vehicles in their community at a local Partners and Communities together meeting. One of the locations highlighted was the area of Lillington Road and Cubbington Road.

At the request of the North Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team, Warwickshire Police's Operations Task Force conducted a recent speed check on these roads. As a result a number of motorists were caught speeding and issued with penalty tickets.

Sgt Ben Smith of North Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team says "We want to focus on what matters most to local people and when communities and partners work together, real results are achieved."
Speeding Day Sucsess The North Leamington Safer Neighbourhood Team, in conjunction with the Operations Task Force, will continue conducting random speed checks at locations across the area to enforce the Road Traffic legislation.

If motorists are caught breaking the speed limit they will receive a £60.00 fine and three points on their licence.

Lillington Community Comes Out For Fun Day The Mayor Councillor Kailash CHANDER revealed the new Lillington community bench. Young people have been working hard on the new bench. The bench has been the result of a long community consultation when young people interviewed local residents to find out what sort of art (if any) they wanted in Lillington. Once the type of art and place was chosen the young people designed the bench. They then fund raised to make the bench. National Neighbourhood Watch Week in Warwick District
National Neighbourhood Watch Week in Warwick District This week is National Neighbourhood Watch Week and a great opportunity to celebrate some of the great work being done by these volunteers on behalf of the community.

Warwickshire has around 5,000 Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) scheme co-ordinators that represent over 50,000 householders across the County.

Coordinators carry out local projects and help to keep members of their schemes aware of local crime issues. Warwickshire Police send out information by telephone, fax, and email or text messages to schemes by a computer based messaging system. In the last 12 months 806 such alerts have been sent out. Messages are also posted to The Warwickshire Safer Neighbourhood Teams web site: www.safer-neighbourhoods.co.uk

David Whitehouse, Head of Community Protection at Warwickshire Police said: “We really value the work of Neighbourhood Watch and their work with our Safer Neighbourhood Teams”.

If anyone is interested in finding out more about joining Neighbourhood Watch or joining a local scheme they should contact their local Safer Neighbourhood Team (see www.safer-neighbourhoods.co.uk ) or email watch@warwickshire.police.uk

Local activities during the week in Warwick district include Neighbourhood Watch members circulating letters to residents in the vicinity of schools and places of worship asking them to report suspicious activity or crime in progress to the Police. This follows damage and thefts at these premises in recent moths.
Volunteers are also blitzing graffiti, particularly on the Pay & Display black boxes in Leamington and Warwick and the green cable TV boxes. They will be using anti-graffiti cleaning kits provided by Warwick District Council.

Neighbourhood Watch are also highlighting the importance of businesses in combating crime in communities. Over 5,000 businesses of various types are members of the scheme in Warwickshire. This includes commercial business, shops, public houses, hotels and rural businesses. Warwickshire Police are currently working with the National Farmers Union to promote membership of the rural watch scheme which currently has over 500 members. Peter Guillaume, Business Crime Prevention Manager for Warwickshire Police said: “These schemes are really important to keep businesses engaged in combating crime. We get some very good feedback from members who value the information they receive”.

This week also sees the launch of a Truck Watch scheme in the midlands. The scheme involves adjacent Police Forces, Warwickshire, West Midlands, West Mercia and Staffordshire and National Police lead TruckPol to combat road freight crime. The Midland Forces will share and circulate crime alert information to freight distributors.
