New HMIC police report cards show crime is falling in Warwickshire
PLEASE NOTE: Warwickshire Police would like to clarify that some national media organisations have ranked forces based on the HMIC Police Report Cards and created their own league tables of police forces. As a consequence of this, these media organisations have given points to each force and Warwickshire has been placed in a group of sixteen forces that have all been awarded 6 points each. The group is listed in alphabetical order and therefore when in alphabetical order Warwickshire is listed towards the bottom, this does not reflect its position in the rankings. If this is unclear in anyway please contact Warwickshire Police Press Office for guidance prior to reporting.
The latest independent HMIC inspection of forces in England and Wales indicates that crime is continuing to fall in Warwickshire.
The assessment called the Police Report Card has graded Warwickshire Police as Fair in all three categories – local crime and policing, protection from serious harm and confidence and satisfaction.
Between January and December 2009, Warwickshire Police reduced the number of victims of crime by 3,127, an 8.2% per cent decrease compared to the number of victims in 2008.
Chief Constable Keith Bristow said: “Working with partners and local communities this year, Warwickshire Police has achieved some tremendous levels of protection for communities.
“For example, last year Warwickshire Police achieved the biggest reduction in violent crime of any force in the country. Between April 2008 and March 2009 the force reduced the number of violent offences by 21 per cent. Between April 2009 and February 2010 we have achieved a further 14.3% reduction in violent crime on top of that.
“We have reduced road deaths and serious injury by 12% between January and December 2009 compared to January to December 2008.
“For the same periods we have reduced robbery by 16%, reduced homes burgled and vehicles stolen by 6% and reduced vehicles broken into by 9%.
Warwickshire Police will continue to focus on those criminals who cause most harm and further increasing policing activity in parts of the county most affected by crime.
“During 2009 our priority was to identify and charge 15 members of organised crime groups whose activities harm communities.
“We smashed this target by charging forty-five members of organised crime groups.
“We are determined to improve trust and confidence in Warwickshire Police. We will do this by continuing to invest in our local policing Safer Neighbourhood Teams and ensure that action is taken to address local priorities that we agree with Community Forums.
“Working together with our partners and local communities we will do all we can to deliver greater protection to people in the year ahead.”
Chief Constable Keith Bristow said “We will prioritise our services in all we do to deliver even more protection to communities in Warwickshire throughout the new financial year.”
“Our primary focus is on ‘protecting’ and ‘preventing’ rather than detecting and our policing priorities, agreed in February for 2010/2011 continue to reflect this.”
