FALSE CHARITY AWARENESS

by Stratford Town SNT last modified 01 July 2008 02:20 PM

This notice is to raise awareness with all residents of Stratford Upon Avon. A recent incident took place in Stratford involving a young lady of about 19 years old and a gentleman who was returning from work. This young lady stated she was collecting for the NSPCA which was responsible for raising awareness of animal cruelty. This lady was well spoken, well dressed and wearing an Id badge. She knew how to address the public in the right manner and sounded convincing by talking about the Data Protection Act. However, on closer inspection the gentleman who spoke to this lady looked at her Id badge and did notice it stated `NSPCA` This charity does NOT exist. The gentleman was asked to set up a direct debit of £1.50 a week, but he asked to have a form sent to his house and complete at a later date. The lady was insistant that it had to be carried out there and then. As the gentleman was suspicious, he declined and closed the door. PLEASE, check ALL id of ANY door caller and if you are not happy with what you are being told, decline and close your door. The NSPCC is the charity for the prevention of the cruelty to children and the RSPCA is the charity for the prevention of the cruelty to animals.
