CCTV aids police in arresting 43 people in June 2007

Stratford-on-Avon District Council's CCTV team and Stratford Safer Neighbourhood Team work together to protect our communities and the month of June 2007 saw CCTV helping police arrest 43 people. Preventing and reducing crime and antisocial behaviour remains a priority for Stratford Safer Neighbourhoods Team. The 43 offenders arrested in June 2007 were for various offences - Theft, criminal damage, wanted for burglary, violence, public order and drugs offences. Working hand in hand with Police and CCTV is also the Stratford Retail Radio Link (SRRL). The SRRL is used by CCTV, local shops, pubs, college, schools and businesses. The CCTV and SRRL act as an early warning signal to the users. Stratford-on-Avon District has one of the lowest crime rates in the county There are 91 cameras in Stratford District recording footage 24 hours a day, seven days a week and the pictures from all the cameras across the District are fed via optical fibre cabling back to the 24-hour monitoring centre in Stratford-upon-Avon and monitors at Police HQ Control Room and Stratford Police Station. CCTV continue to help detect crime and CCTV footage is often used in court to secure convictions.
