The Bulldog Bash
After the tragic death of Gerry Tobin at last years Bulldog Bash Police were determined that history would not repeat itself at this years event and the Bash was enjoyed by all who attended and was a great success. Police formed an operation which was based on intelligence gathered following the murder of Gerry Tobin at last years event and the planned policing operation was required in order to manage proportionately the threat that existed based on that intelligence. Although this intelligence cannot be shared with the public it should be remembered that the trial of seven persons for Gerry Tobins murder is still to take place.
The aim of the operation was to: 1. Deter and detect any criminal activity that may have been planned in relation to the event, which is organised by the Hells Angels. 2. Ensuring the safety of the public and the police in connection with the event. 3. Provide an overt visible policing presence to reassure the public. 4. Provide a response to any serious crime that required an immediate response within the event site.
The operation involved ANPR, road closures and stop and search in order to deter people from attending and disrupting the event or causing harm. During the operation 26 people were arrested and 24 weapons were seized, no lives were lost. There were no major incidents and therefore we achieved our aim.
The final cost of the operation is yet to be determined but a budget of £1.4 million was set aside
