Warwickshire Police is participating in a national campaign to celebrate the successes of neighbourhood policing.

It aims to highlight how the promise made by the Police Service in 2005 for all forces to have neighbourhood policing teams in place by 31 March 2008 has been achieved.

The campaign is entitled "A Name in Every Neighbourhood - Keeping the Promise" and will run throughout England & Wales between 17 - 29 March 2008.

Warwickshire Police launched its neighbourhood policing programme, branded as Safer Neighbourhoods, in November 2006, well ahead of the national requirement, and now has 33 well-established teams working effectively across the county.

Assistant Chief Constable Bill Holland said: "We are proud of our Safer Neighbourhood teams and the difference they are making in communities across Warwickshire, and so we were very keen to participate in this national campaign."

To coincide with national marketing activity around the campaign, Warwickshire Police has taken out advertising in a series of local papers throughout the county, reminding local residents what Safer Neighbourhoods is all about and including names and contact details for each team.

This includes direct dial telephone numbers for each team for the first time, increasing their accessibility still further.

There are five versions of the advertisements, to include Stratford and Warwick districts as well as North Warwickshire, Rugby and Nuneaton & Bedworth boroughs.

The majority of funding for these advertisements has come from the Home Office.

ACC Holland continued: "We celebrated a year of Safer Neighbourhoods in November and at that time, compiled a list of 365 initiatives that the teams were involved with during those first twelve months.

"There were numerous examples of the good work being done in our communities, much of it with the direct involvement of our local partners and volunteer organisations like Neighbourhood Watch.

"We want to ensure that everyone knows who their local policing teams are and how they can be contacted, and we hope that the advertisements due to appear in the newspapers across Warwickshire over the next week or so will go along way towards achieving this."

Each list of contact details includes names, telephone numbers, email and website addresses for each team, and those living or working locally are being encouraged to retain these for future reference.

Further details about this campaign are included on the Home Office website, while full details for each Safer Neighbourhood team in Warwickshire and the work they are doing to protect our communities can be found within this site.
