Fighting Crime in Stratford District
- Reductions in all areas of crime, especially house burglaries, and vehicle crime (down by 10%) have been helped by the Safer Neighbourhood teams and partnerships with local agencies.
- Stratford is at the hub of several main arterial roads providing easy links to cities like Birmingham and Coventry - but also bringing the problem of travelling criminals. Operation Portsmouth involves intelligence-led road checks on arterial roads, targeting any vehicles believed to be used by criminals. Since May 2006, this has helped to reduce house burglaries significantly.
- Through the ‘BARd Watch’ partnership, the police meet local licencees around the district, to discuss problem customers. Persistent drink-related offenders are barred throughout the district and their photographs are circulated. Retail radio and CCTV surveillance reinforce the ban and pre-empt major trouble.
- The result - an 8% annual reduction in violent crime.
Crime Mapping
Members of the public can now access the latest local crime information through a new interactive crime mapping website. The maps highlight force crime data by ward level, above-or-below-average crime rates for the force (based on 1 an 2 standard deviations), allowing for a comparison to the same time the previous year and showing the trend on a monthly basis for the last 12 months.
