Robber gets 6 years!
Robber gets 6 years! Paul GERRARD from Coventry was jailed for 6 years for robberies that took place in Warwickshire. The offender was part of a masked gang that struck at shops in Wellesbourne and Baginton. The One-Stop shop on Bridge St, Wellesbourne was preparing to close when three masked men burst in. The men who were wearing dark stocking masks under baseball caps and brandishing claw hammers threatened the staff with the weapons and demanded cash. The men stole about £100 in cash and a large quantity of cigarettes.
Weeks later the gang struck again - this time in the village of Baginton - they attempted to gain access to the Post storeroom, but quick thinking by the post-master prevented this happening. The gang left the store with £308 from the till and a quantity of cigarettes.
GERRARD was later arrested and admitted to both raids, but refused to name the other men. PCSO Canning from the Wellesbourne Team assisted by members of the local business community played a major role in assisting Leamington CID in bringing this case to a successful result.

DOORSTEP CALLERS
DOORSTEP CALLERS Police remind householders to always use the Doorstep Code for uninvited callers

~Always put the security chain on the door before opening it
~Ask the caller who they are and where they are from
~Ask to see some form of identification - take the card from them and examine it
~Check with the company who they claim to be from, using a telephone number out of the telephone directory, not the number on the card, as this could be answered by an accomplice
~If you have any doubts tell the caller you want to make an appointment for them to call back at a more convenient time - when you will be able to have a friend or relative with you. Genuine callers will understand and will be happy to comply with these arrangements
~You do not have to let a stranger into your home - even if they claim it Is an emergency
The Community Safety Department have produced a "Nominated Neighbour" notice which is available free from all the enquiry desks at all Warwickshire Police Stations. The card is held up at the window when uninvited callers come to your house and tells them that you do not open the door to strangers and advises them to contact your nominated neighbour who will go through the necessary checks before returning with them to your home.
