Warwickshire Police release Christmas drink drive figures
The number of people arrested for drink driving in Warwickshire this Christmas dropped slightly compared to the previous year.

Between December 1 2009 and January 1 2010 Warwickshire Police officers breathalised 1162 drivers with just 40 - 3.4% - either proving positive, refusing or failing to provide a specimen.

This was nearly half the number of people breathalised in roadside tests last year (2055) when 3.2% proved positive.

There were 149 tests carried out following collisions, of which eight were positive, refused or failed to provide a specimen.

A total of 308 tests were carried out on drivers under the age of 25 of which six (1.9%) were positive, refused or failed to provide a specimen.
This is considerably down on last year when 3% of the under 25s tested were positive.

Chief Inspector Chris Lewis, who heads the force Operations Task Force, welcomed the results and said:

"We breathalised about 30 people a day, which is a significant number, and the results indicate that people are being responsible over the drink drive issue.

"We have worked with our partners throughout the past year to maintain constant engagement with what we consider to be high risk drivers through a range of educational and enforcement operations. This will continue throughout 2010.

"We will continue to target those drivers who are likely to cause the most harm to other drivers, in particular the repeat offenders who continually violate road traffic law and who clearly do not care about other road users".

Theft from motor vehicle
Between 19th & 20th January unknown offender/s have entered a vehicle parked in Whitehorse Hill, Snitterfield. Once inside offender/s have stolen a Laptop bag, which was empty and later discarded the item down the road. Incident number: 20100119-0038 Crime number: S/10/569

Vehicle Seized under Sec 59 Police Reform Act
On Tuesday 19th January a motorcycle being ridden by two local males was involved in a Fail to stop incident with Wellesbourne & Shipston officers. The vehicle made off from officers as they tried to stop it in the Loxley Area, but due to dangerous conditions the pursuit was halted.

Later that day while on routine patrol PCSO’s Anna Samuel & Hayley Ditchburn came across the vehicle parked in St. Peters Rd, Kineton and alerted this to officers, who attended the scene and seized the vehicle under Sec 59 Police Reform Act 2002.
“Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 refers to vehicles being used in a manner which causes alarm, distress or annoyance. Where a vehicle is being used in this way, or otherwise amounts to careless or inconsiderate driving- Police officers have powers to warn drivers and any subsequent further nuisance, the vehicles can be seized and in some cases destroyed.”

Vehicle Crime - Kineton
Between the 13th & 15th January a number of vehicles in the Kineton area were broken into and various items stolen, such as Laptops and wallets.

Warwickshire Police want to remind the community to place all items out of view in their vehicles and better still remove the items.
Here are a few handy tips to remember:

  1. Don't leave anything of value, or anything that looks like it may have value, in plain view in your car. Even an empty backpack will be inviting to a thief. They don’t know that it’s empty.

  2. Don't leave anything in your car with your name and address on it. Carry your registration and insurance card in your wallet.

  3. Keep you car keys on a separate key ring from your house keys. Park only in well-lit, busy areas.

  4. Do not put items of value in your trunk while shopping. Your trunk is easy to break into and thieves watch for people placing items in their trunks. If you have to leave something in your car, pull over and place it in your trunk before you get to where you are going.

  5. Install motion sensor floodlights on the front of your house. This will not only help protect vehicles parked in front of your house but will also help protect your home and your family.

Vehicle Seized - Wellesbourne
On the 7th December 2010 a further vehicle was sized in the Wellesbourne area as part of the ongoing operation to deny illegal and uninsured drivers the use of our roads. The driver of the vehicle had not only driving license discrepancies but was also uninsured. This ongoing operation ensures the safety of other road users and pedestrians alike. Several other partner agencies were utilized during the investigation of the offence, including the use of an interpreter and the UK borders agency.
