Doorstep Code For Uninvited Callers
Doorstep Code For Uninvited Callers Crime Prevention Advice - Distraction Burglaries

Police remind householders to always use the Doorstep Code for uninvited callers
~Always put the security chain on the door before opening it.
~Ask the caller who they are and where they are from.
~Ask to see some form of identification - take the card from them and examine it.
~Check with the company who they claim to be from, using a telephone number out of the telephone directory, not the number on the card, as this could be answered by an accomplice.
~If you have any doubts tell the caller you want to make an appointment for them to call back at a more convenient time - when you will be able to have a friend or relative with you. Genuine callers will understand and will be happy to comply with these arrangements.

You do not have to let a stranger into your home - even if they claim it Is an emergency!!

"Nominated Neighbour" notices are available free from all the enquiry desks at all Warwickshire Police Stations. The card is held up at the window when uninvited callers come to your house and tells them that you do not open the door to strangers and advises them to contact your nominated neighbour who will go through the necessary checks before returning with them to your home.

Anti- Social Behaviour
Anti- Social Behaviour PCSO Michelle Suddaby together with the Anti-Social Behaviour Officer for Stratford have this week handed out 3 ASB Warning letters to youths in Wellesbourne. Any further ASB from these youths will see them placed on an Acceptable Behaviour Contract (ABC) which stipulates terms and conditions that the young person must agree to and abide by or risk further action to be taken against them.

Smartwater your personal belongings
Smartwater your personal belongings Property marking helps police reunite you with any stolen property and is also a real deterrent to thieves.

If an item is marked a thief will probably not steal it because it will be much harder to sell. After all, when there is lots of unmarked property around it's easier to steal that instead.

Mark your property
SmartWater is a chemically based forensic dye likened in concept to DNA profiling and unique to the registered owner. It is colourless, odourless and once applied to valuables such as computers, Hi Fi equipment, cameras, DVD or Video players, it is virtually impossible to remove.

If an offending burglar gets SmartWater on them, it is almost impossible to get off and immediately shows up if that person is examined with ultra violet light in a custody suite. A mark just the size of a pinhead is enough for that person to be linked to a crime scene.

SmartWater can be purchased direct from www.smartwater.co.uk, or from the Crime Prevention Officers at stratford Police Station on 01789 414111.

Because each application of SmartWater has its own DNA code, it means that any criminals who are later arrested can be linked forensically to the crime scenes.

Two Arrested Following Attempted Burglary, Wellesbourne Co-op
Police officers arrested two males on suspicion of attempted burglary at the Co-op store in Loxley Close, Wellesbourne, early on Tuesday 3 March 2009.

A ladder was found leaning against a wall at the Co-op by police officers who were on routine patrol.
Two males were seen running across the adjacent football field by the police officers at shortly before 4am this morning (Tuesday 3 March). A silver Vauxhall car was then spotted driving from the nearby housing estate onto the A429 towards Barford. The car was brought to a halt when officers driving in the opposite direction from the A46 deployed a stinger device across the road near Sherbourne.

The two males, aged 24 years and 25 years were arrested and remain in police custody today where they are being questioned in respect of attempted burglary.

WARWICKSHIRE CRIME MAPPING
WARWICKSHIRE CRIME MAPPING Warwickshire residents can keep a check on crime levels in their communities through a new crime mapping system which has just been launched in the county.

Crime mapping is part of a Home Office initiative which will eventually be available in all 43 police forces across England and Wales giving members of the public easy access to local crime data.

By logging on to Warwickshire Police website (www.warwickshire.police.uk), the Safer Neighbourhoods website (www.safer-neighbourhoods.co.uk) or directly via warwickshire.crimemapper.co.uk members of the public can see whether crime is up or down in their community and compare with other areas within Warwickshire.

They can also see what their neighbourhood policing team is doing to cut crime and tackle local issues by following the link to their local Safer Neighbourhood site.

Crime data will be shown as high, above average, average, below average and low based on the average for Warwickshire and will be uploaded on a monthly basis.

Members of the public can view this data at county, district/borough and ward levels and by entering their postcode it will take them directly to the ward covering the postcode entered.

Categories featured are violence, burglary, theft, robbery, vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour as well as "all crime" which covers all of these plus other criteria.
Crime Rates are shown as a number per 1000 population, ie the rate is calculated by multiplying the actual number of crimes by 1000 and dividing the total by the population for that area, and actual crime numbers are also available.

Welcoming the new service Superintendent Andy Johnson said: "We are pleased to be able to make this crime data available to the public in this way and to show what Warwickshire Police is doing to protect communities from harm.

"The information available through the crime mapping system allows members of the public to see at a glance the crime levels in their locality and how it compares with other areas.

"Residents should not be alarmed if their area appears to have a high level of crime, it simply means that there are more reported crimes than the average for Warwickshire - this can be due to a police operation running in the area or a national event such as Global Gathering.

"They should also be aware that a percentage increase may give the impression of a disproportionate increase in crime because of the low figures involved, by clicking the Total Crimes, members of the public will be able to view the actual numbers of crime within the chosen category for that month.

"In Warwickshire last year more than 5,000 extra people were protected from harm - there were 105 fewer victims of serious violence, 471 fewer victims of burglary, 1,859 fewer victims of car crime and 1,032 fewer victims of criminal damage - and we want to increase that number in 2009."

School Parking...Think....!
School Parking...Think....! The death of a child is horrific, whatever the circumstances, but the unnecessary death of a child, even more so.

Children have reported that they are unhappy that they have to walk in the road when people are parked on the yellow zig zags outside the school.
The yellow zig zags are there to protect the children from possible traffic dangers outside the front of school, and to create an area of high visibility for other road users as the children leave the school site. Parents are requested and reminded to park away from the yellow markings, the white prohibited line and the junction for their own child's safety. We do not want your child to be hurt.
