PCSO Nominated for National Awards
PCSO Nominated for National Awards The Community Support Officer of the year award was introduced in 2007 and reflects the changes in community policing. It recognises the important and evolving contribution that PCSO's are making to neighbourhood policing as they provide reassurance to communities.

Michelle was nominated by Sgt Darren Fretwell of the Wellesbourne Safer-neighbourhood Team and fully backed by all her colleagues based at Wellesbourne Station.

Sgt Fretwell quoted saying:
'Michelle is dedicated to serving her community, she is a reliable visible presence, communicating with residents, giving advice and organising events to improve the look of her area.
When one young teenager was frequently in trouble with the police and going missing, Michelle did what she could to encourage the 15-year-old girl to behave, enforcing anti-social behaviour laws and working with the family to improve her behaviour.
Michelle has been instrumental in setting up a pub watch scheme and organising patrols in her villages after residents request.'
A girl's parents say: 'Michelle is well respected around Wellesbourne; she is always available to help if she can. She often asks how we are and gives us strategies to cope during difficult times. Most people have walked away from families with problem children unless they break the law, but not Michelle.'

On Wednesday 28th October 2009 PCSO Michelle Suddaby attended Jane's Police Review Awards at the London Hilton, Park Lane, unfortunately she did not win the National Award but is still regarded highly by Warwickshire Police as their nominee for 'community support office of the year'

Michelle says: 'I was overwhelmed to be nominated by my team at Wellesbourne for this special award, a special thank you goes to Sgt Darren Fretwell for believing in my ability and supporting all the work I have contributed over the last 18 months.
A massive Thank You to PC Cuthbertson & PC Comyns for there help and support since I started at Wellesbourne, I would also like to say Thank You to Dean Canning & Henri Smith, who although have left the team were still a great source of support to me. I couldn't have done any of it without the continued support from all those who have been and are still involved with the Wellesbourne Safer Neighbourhood Team.'

DON’T BE A VICTIM THIS CHRISTMAS
DON’T BE A VICTIM THIS CHRISTMAS In Warwickshire the chances of you or your family being the victim of crime are already low but by taking a few simple precautions you can reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime even further during this Christmas period.

When Christmas Shopping

~ Park in well lit public places; avoid isolated or dimly lit areas.

~ Get into the habit of not leaving any items in the car. Do not leave objects on display

~ If you have to return to your car to unload purchases make sure that they are locked out of sight.

~ Avoid carrying too much around with you, the more bags you’ve got the more vulnerable you are.
~ Keep your purse or wallet somewhere close to your body where you can feel it.

~ If you carry your purse in a handbag make sure that the zip or clasp is kept closed and out of the way of pick pockets.

~ Take extra care with your credit cards over the Christmas period to reduce the chances of them being stolen or skimmed.

~ Be vigilant at cash machines. If you notice anything out of place or anyone hanging around nearby report it.

~ Keep your PIN safe and put cash away safely before walking away.

10 Winter Checks for Your Car
It is important to check your car regularly to make sure that it is good working order.
However at the start of the winter season it is more important to check your car over so that you know that the car will work to its optimum in the harsh winter weather conditions.

Tyres
Obviously tyres are really important and if your tyres don't have much tread left, they aren't going to perform well and hold the road during the wintery road conditions. The minimum legal tread depth in the UK is 1.6 mm, however realistically this isn't enough tread to see you through the rain, ice and snow of winter. It's not just the tread that wears out, have a look around the wall of the tyres for bulges, cracks or foreign objects.

Antifreeze
Checking your cars antifreeze levels is very important; after all you don't want the water in the engine freezing up. Cooling system failure is the leading cause of engine related breakdowns during the winter months. The easiest way to test that your engine has enough antifreeze to survive the winter is to get an antifreeze tester. The tester checks the water to antifreeze ratio in your cooling system and you simply top up with more water or antifreeze depending on what the tester results are.

Windscreen Wipers
Windscreen wipers see a lot of action in the winter. Make sure that the window wipers on your car remove water from your windscreen screen efficiently. They may need replacing if they are cracked or if they do not remove water in one wipe.

Window Wash Fluid
You will be using your window wash fluid more regularly during the winter, make sure you keep it topped up with a quality, degreasing window wash solution.

Car Battery
Batteries can sometime find winter weather hardgoing, especially an aging battery. Make sure that all the battery connections are pushed on tightly and make sure that the wires are in good repair.

If you do experience problems, you can get your battery tested to determine if this is the source of the problem.
10 Winter Checks for Your Car Brakes
Check your brakes and your brake fluid levels. When visibility is reduced and the road surface is slippy you need to know that you have reliable breaks. They could save your life.

Wax
Treat your car to a nice wash and wax. This isn't just so that it will look pristine, but it will protect the paint work from the cold weather conditions and salt that they use to keep the roads ice free, and will also make snow and ice slip off the car easily.

Rear Heated Window
You probably haven't used your heater rear window all summer long, so switch it on and just make sure that it is still working correctly.

Fog Lights
Make sure that your fog lights are in full working order and the bulbs don't need replacing.

Climate Control
It is important that the driver and the passengers of the car are comfortable, so make sure that the climate control in the car is still working correctly.

If you are worried at all you should take your car to a garage to be looked at by a professional. Some garages offer free winter checks and it is advisable to take advantage of such an offer for your piece of mind and safety.

If you do have a break down, it is worth considering keeping a blanket and some chocolate in the car. You may have to wait a while in a cold car for the recovery wagon to arrive, and you will need to keep warm.
