Neighbourhood Watch
Neighbourhood Watch Following a concerted effort to raise awareness and canvass volunteers for NHW in certain areas on Wellesbourne SNT. We are very pleased to announce a fantastic response in forming NHW groups in Knightcote, Burton Dassett and Newbold Pacey. These three villages were somewhat void of NHW operatives but are now in the process of organising themselves into a fully functional group of community spirited members. Ourselves and established NHW volunteers are working closely with these fledgling groups to assist in making them a success. There is still a lot of work to do with other village communities on our beat but rest assured we are working on it.

Don't forget "Crime cannot flourish in a community that cares"

The transition from initial interest in setting up NHW schemes to "live" schemes themselves is not that great and may be summarised thus: Once it has been determined which residents wish to join a particular scheme, draw up a list of members, having decided who will be 'chairperson' and 'deputy chairperson' seek at least two volunteers who will receive police alert messages and disseminate the information. Communicate the benefits of property marking possessions (Smartwater) and arrange the frequency of meetings (say quarterly). Convey to the NHW Officer at Stratford Police Station, Mr Barry Armitage 01789 444544, the details of those persons prepared to receive police messages. The final act is to hand out the 'membership badges' in the form of window roundels.
Neighbourhood Watch has proved itself to be successful. All over the country and in all sorts of locations active schemes have reduced crime rates by working with each other and the Police. Crime in our local community reduces our quality of life: it influences how safe we feel, the extent to which we respect our neighbours and our buildings and how our children grow up and what values they adopt.

Watch this space.

PCSO's Dean Canning and Henri Smith also attended Shotteswell Village on Sat 13th September, this was to swop over old Neighbourhood Watch Signs for New ones.

Keeping Children Safe
Keeping Children Safe There is a pilot scheme running in Warwickshire where parents, carers or guardians of children and young people can ask the police to tell them if a person has a record for child sexual offences.

If police checks show that they have a record for child sexual offences, or other offences that might put a child at risk, the police will consider sharing this information with you, if you are the child's parent, carer or guardian.
For more information about this pilot contact Warwickshire Police on 01926 415899 or visit www.warwickshire.police.uk/keepingchildrensafe

Honesty pays dividends!!
Have you ever mislaid anything? Stopped your daily shopping chores to get a well earned cup of tea only to realise later that your purse/wallet is missing?

What a horrendous feeling it is knowing that someone may now be helping themselves to a new pair of shoes with your hard earned cash.

These things happen unfortunately and can be very distressing.

And so it was for a local gentleman on Friday 19th September. Were it not for an honest and upstanding 11 year old and his two friends from Wellesbourne, all students from Kineton High School, the weekend looked bleak for the gentleman concerned.
How refreshing to learn that the youths concerned found the wallet and duly brought it to Wellesbourne Police Station to hand it in intact.

The gentleman attended the Police station almost immediately after the youths had left and was overjoyed to be reunited with his lost property and commended the honesty of the youths. So grateful was he that he rewarded the youths £5 each.

Doing the right thing earns respect and admiration whatever the circumstances.
