The Southern Area Community Safety Team are keen for all residents to be aware of SMARTWATER, please find below the following information and contact details:

Smartwater is basically a 21st century version of the Ultra Violet marker pen, except it is a fluid contained in a mascara bottle. The chemical compound of the fluid is totally unique for every bottle produced and each bottle is registered to a specific address by Smartwater. The fluid is applied using the mascara brush to the object you wish to mark - no need to write anything - just cover a reasonable area with the fluid.

The fluid dries after about one hour and, depending on the article to which it is applied, the fluid is invisible in white light. However, shine a UV light over the dried mark it glows a yellowy green. If the item comes to the attention of the police we can scrape off a small part of the Smartwater and send it off to them for analysis. They will then determine the address the sample is registered to. Additionally, each bottle contains minute white particles each one of which has - believe it or not - a nine digit number printed on it. (Bit like Data Tag). The number can be read using a microscope and by using a Smartwater 24 hour contact number they can again tell you what address that nine digit number is registered to.
