Keep your garage safe
- If you have a household alarm fitted, consider extending the system into the garage area to detect intruders.
- If you cannot attach it to your household system purchase a separate garage alarm, they can be purchased with a standard three pin plug which can be connected to a standard electrical 240v socket.
- Fit a garage door blocker on the outside of the door. This product bolts permanently to the floor, has a large 'T' bar shaped restrictor and a quality locking device.
- Consider fitting a pair of garage door locks that are fitted either from the inside or outside of the garage.
- Install dead bolts mounted one on each edge of the door inside the garage. When in use, the locks throw a bolt into the doorframe or the concrete floor of the garage.
- You can purchase various good quality up and over or rolling deadlocking doors handles. These can replace the existing poor quality locks that tend to come as standard.
- Consider purchasing loop cables. These have a long braided steel cable and a two-bolt anchor locking point. these fix to garage walls or floors and can be passed through expensive property suck as quad bikes, etc. Some cables are alarmed.

- Position your shed as near to your house as possible, if this is not practical make sure it is clearly visible from your house.
- Replace any rotten sections of wood therefore keeping it solid.
- Make sure any windows or doors have appropriate locks attached for example padlocks and chains for the door and window locks for any windows. Once fitted ensure they are kept locked when unattended for however long a period.
- Secure electrical items by attaching metal rings the inside frame of the shed and lock the items to said rings.
- Replace any glass windowpanes with laminated glass.
- Battery powered shed alarms are available from local DIY stores and your local police station so please fit them
- Finally make certain that any household insurance policy covers theft from your garden and outbuildings.
