Allotment Holders Unite Against Criminal Damage

Members at Eastlands Allotments are showing a united front following a spate of shed burglary and criminal damage on the site. Dedicated gardeners have returned to their plots to find that their crops have been destroyed, sheds vandalised and even piles of ashes where their sheds used to be.

Most recently the allotment store was broken into and a cream and red, Honda rotivator was stolen. This rotivator was donated to the allotment members 2 years ago by Les Leeson, who gave up his plot due to maturing age after many years of enjoyment amongst fellow allotment holders. The rotivator was hired out to members and all proceeds were given to the Air Ambulance.

It is not just the efforts of the plot holders to promote a healthier lifestyle that is being disrupted but there is also the potential for serious or fatal injury to occur.

Police Officers and PCSO's are working with the allotment holders to deal with offenders. Police dog handlers will also be exercising and training their dogs in and around the allotments overnight.
