Old Jan 08:Coal Pitt Lane Lay.

Local residents have complained about the use of the lay-by on Coal Pitt Lane. Residents believe this has historically been used as a meeting place for prostitutes and for other innapropriate behaviour. The residents expressed a need for this issue to be addressed by both the police and the local council.

Operation Ampthill was set up by the Rugby Rural SNT team which comprised of a covert operation to un-cover what activity was actually taking place at the lay-by on Coal Pitt Lane including two other locations which had been named by residents. The operation was a success in that officers obtained alot of information in relation to the use of the lay-by on Coal Pitt Lane and the Fosse and also a small wooded area towards Wibtoft. Evidence was found by officers that the three areas were used on a regular basis by people and their activity due to the operation was disrupted. Paul Collette from CDRP is looking into the possibility that the areas are being advertised on the internet in order to disrupt or remove any information about the sites. A meeting was held on the 6th February in relation to the above issues and it has been agreed by the local Highways Authority and the Environmental Health that firstly the lay-by will be closed off on Coal Pitt Lane and secondly the areas will be cleaned up in order to prevent any further use of the lay-by.
