Its crunch time for car criminals and burglars!
Warwickshire Police is launching a major operation against burglars and car criminals following a recent increase in the number of offences across the county.

The force has formed a proactive team of officers and will use both high-profile and covert activity to target offenders, both day and night, over the next three months.

The force-wide unit will be supported by officers and staff in local Safer Neighbourhood teams, reactive and CID officers, Task Force officers and officers in the force's Offender Management Unit, which targets persistent and prolific offenders.

Chief Superintendent Mak Chishty, Deputy Director of Local Policing and the person leading Operation Crunch said:
"With the support of local communities and partners, we have been successful in reducing crime in Warwickshire. Last year there were 5,287 fewer offences (a drop of 11.7%) compared to 2006/2007 with car crime and house burglaries reduced by 24% and 17% respectively.

People in Warwickshire can now phone the intelligence hotline number - which will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week - to provide information about car criminals or burglars operating in their community.

The Operation Crunch Intelligence Hotline number is: 01926 415247.

If you would like to report an incident please continue to call 01788 541111, in an emergency use 999.

Are you interested in knowing more about Neighbourhood Watch?
Are you interested in knowing more about Neighbourhood Watch? Neighbourhood Watch is a national scheme which encourages local residents to be more involved in their local communities.

A NHW scheme can have any number of residents but a minumum of 3 or 4 is usually recommended. Schemes are usually set up geographically and commonly by street, or collection of streets depending on their size and what is managable for the scheme.

Two volunteers are required to be co-ordinator and deputy co-ordinator and this is to pass on any useful correspondance from agencies should there be any.
Residents sign up and receive watch messages through a medium that suits them; usually telephone, fax or email.

It is up to the individual scheme how often they meet if at all however local police will aim to attend where possible and support the scheme as best possible.

If you would like any more information please leave your name, number and address on our team voicemail (01788 853851) or email: rrc.snt@warwickshire.pnn.police.uk and a team member will contact you.
