Successful rural police operation
Sergeant Steve Childs of the Rural Safer Neighbourhood Team set up an operation to specifically patrol areas at the high-risk times, and to target criminal activities. There was a noticeable reduction in the level of reported crime during the period of the operation 12th-14th March.
There were several positive outcomes as a result of the police activities; a cannabis farm was discovered in Flecknoe where 70 plants were recovered. An adult male was arrested and has been released on police bail awaiting forensic results. A youth was arrested and received a reprimand in relation to damage to a shop in Long Lawford; a Transit van stolen from Mill Road, Rugby was recovered from Woodside Caravan Park, Ryton-on-Dunsmore; 3 youths were arrested for being possession of offensive weapons; a number of people were dealt with for drink and other driving related matters.
PS Childs states ‘This operation has had a positive impact on crime in rural and isolated areas. We are pleased with the results achieved and more operations of a similar nature are planned. It is important that people in these areas see police officers on patrol and acting on the matters of concern that they raise; and the results speak for themselves. It is part of the development of the Safer Neighbourhoods Team.'
