Fighting Crime in Rugby District
- Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) have been developed to deter crime in industrial parks. We support a ‘Public/Private Partnership’ with a company which operates CCTV for Rugby Council and is now extending the service to trading estates. The contractor also runs the town’s retail radio system and has a link to Rugby Police’s control room. As Martin Samuel says, “They’re our eyes and ears - for me this is real ‘joined up’ thinking.”
- Rugby is also a leader in the management of offenders. Offender Management team officers are responsible for dealing with the most prolific offenders who are involved with vehicle crime and burglary across the borough.
- Rugby has achieved a high level of performance in solving burglaries. One in four crimes (25%) was detected during 2005/6. This is well above the force target of 22%. With the help of our partners and communities, we will increase our success further.
Crime Mapping
Members of the public can now access the latest local crime information through a new interactive crime mapping website. The maps highlight force crime data by ward level, above-or-below-average crime rates for the force (based on 1 an 2 standard deviations), allowing for a comparison to the same time the previous year and showing the trend on a monthly basis for the last 12 months.
