Wem Brook South - Pact meeting
A meeting of the Wem Brook South PACT was held on Tuesday 26th August. Present were 2 Borough Councillors, 1 County Councillor, 1 County Council representative, 2 members of the Police and 15 members of the public. Acting Sergeant Gardner told the meeting that due to several reasons the area had a reduced number of officers, but they were still endeavouring to carry out the wishes of the public.The meeting was also told that a person who had breached the conditions of their ASBO was now in custody. As this was the first meeting for some considerable time, and many attendees had not been to any previous meetings Councillor Jackson explained the purpose of these meetings and how they usually work.The meeting was then asked to highlight any areas of concern.
The shops around New Hill Top were experiencing problems with youths buying and consuming alcohol leading to anti social behaviour.There was also concern regarding the canal towpath being overgrown and in accessible. Bollards were due to be fitted in local jitties but work needed to be done to tidy up overgrown bushes and litter. Several residents were concerned about the vehicle speeding on the estates especially along Donnithorne Ave around 4pm til 6pm.Riversley Park was also a cause for concern as , as well as it general appearance, bikes were ignoring the notices not to ride down the tunnel and youngsters had been seen drinking and being rowdy.Disabled parking in the area was required. Motor bikes had been seen on the fields behind the Young Peoples Club. Another item of concern was the poor street lighting around Sudeley/Poyser/Dorlecote. The dropped curb designed for mobility scooters to use when crossing the road were being blocked by parked vehicles.
The meeting was then asked to vote on priorities. These are as follows
1) Anti Social Behaviour around Dorlecote shops.
2) Speeding especially along Donnithorne Ave.
3) Riversley Park, general appearance and behaviour of some users.
The meeting then closed. The next PACT meeting to be in three months time.
