Police have re-issued their warning to members of the public not to give their personal PIN number out to anyone claiming to be from the bank who contacts them over the phone.

The warning comes after a man working at a company on the Pool Road Industrial Estate in Nuneaton fell victim to the scam and had nearly £1000 withdrawn from his accounts.

It is believed the man was targeted after an unknown caller came to his place of work and asked for a business card. While the man was away from the reception desk getting his card the stranger is believed to have searched his jacket, which was hanging on his chair, and stole his wallet.

A short time later the man received a call from someone purporting to be from his Bank who asked him to confirm his PIN number for his bank account. The man gave the caller his PIN number.

It was later discovered that several quantities of money had been withdrawn from his bank account, amounting to nearly £1000, in addition to losing £220 in cash which was in his stolen wallet.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said, "Companies need to be aware of this ruse and ensure that personal property including jackets, coats and handbags are not accessible to anyone calling at the reception area."

Members of the public are reminded again never to give out personal information about your bank account to anyone contacting you by telephone claiming to be from the bank. "Banks or other security companies will never contact you on the phone and ask you for details such as your PIN number. Banks now also use security questions when you contact them, in order to ensure your account remains secure."

The man who is suspected of stealing the wallet is described as being a white male, aged approximately 30 years of slim build with spiky dark hair and stubble. He spoke with an Irish accent and was wearing a light grey suit.
