Graffiti has become a major concern associated with anti-social behaviour, those that are participating in this act are contributing to making the area in which they live appear run-down and unlooked after and costing thousands of pounds to put right.

What is Graffiti?

Graffiti is an illegal or unauthorised defacing of a building or other structure by painting or otherwise marking it with words, pictures or symbols.

Graffiti is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE which will not be tolerated and can lead to a criminal record together with (click on the link for further information):

  • A reprimand
  • A Compensation Order
  • Suspended Sentence Order
  • Intermittent Custody
  • Think First Programme
  • One to One
  • Controlling Anger and Learning to Manage It (CALM) Programme

All of these punishments will go on your record and may affect you later on in life.

There is not just the criminal side to look at. What about the affects that this can have on your family?

  • If in rented accommodation you and your family can be subject to a tenancy demotion or in some case evicted
  • Your parents could be liable to a fine for your criminal activities
  • Not getting a promotion because you have a criminal record
  • Letting down younger brothers and sisters who look up to you
  • The shame and humiliation that your family feel

Warwickshire Police are actively looking for “Taggers” and if caught any of the above can happen to you.

We have launched a gallery of Tags on our website. If your Tag is on there sometime soon the Police are going to be knocking on YOUR door.

What Happens Next?

When a suspected offender has been named an investigation will take place and evidence such as CCTV and witness statements will be gathered. The suspect will then be brought in for interview. Once an offender has been found guilty a cross will be placed through their tag on the website and the Courts will deal with them as they see fit. For details of relevant punishments, please see the section above.
