Fighting Crime in North Warwickshire
- Fingerprint testing machines are being installed in local bars in response to a high level of street assaults that were taking place at night.
- Machines can test the fingerprints of people who are suspected of trying to gain entry after being banned. A BAND (Bars Against Nightime Disorder) initiative uses retail radio, CCTV and regular meetings with licensees to stamp out drink-related crime.
- Town centre Alcohol Free Zones are being considered, to stop casual binge-type drinking in open areas and reduce intimidation to people socialising legitimately.
- High profile foot patrols and CCTV vans act as a deterrent and ensure that any offenders are quickly arrested.
- A nine-strong Volume Crime Action Team has been set up to tackle offences such as car crime and criminal damage.
Crime Mapping
Members of the public can now access the latest local crime information through a new interactive crime mapping website. The maps highlight force crime data by ward level, above-or-below-average crime rates for the force (based on 1 an 2 standard deviations), allowing for a comparison to the same time the previous year and showing the trend on a monthly basis for the last 12 months.
