Police Seek Witnesses To Series Of Street Robberies In Nuneaton
Police in Nuneaton are appealing for witnesses following a series of street robberies late on Tuesday night (19 June) and in the early hours of Wednesday morning (20 June).
In each incident the victim was assaulted before having their property taken from them. In nearly all the incidents the victims have reported two male assailants on a moped.
In what is believed to be the first incident in the series a 24-yearold man was walking along Powell Way at around 9pm when he was approached by an unknown male who demanded cash and his Blackberry mobile phone. The victim was punched in the face and fell to the ground before having his property stolen.
An 18-year old male was also attacked and robbed as he walked along Gypsy Lane, Nuneaton at about 11pm on Tuesday, 19 June. Two males on a moped approached him, pushed him the ground and stole his mobile phone.
In another incident near to Everard Court, a 22 year old man was knocked unconscious and later attended hospital for treatment to cuts to his head after he was punched in the face and knocked to the floor by two males who approached him on a moped, or motor scooter, as he walked home with a friend around 11pm on Tuesday. He had his wallet with £100 and his mobile phone stolen.
In one of the attacks a 54-year old man sustained a broken jaw, a cut to his head plus cracked ribs after he was punched in the head by his attackers and fell to the floor in Clement Street, near its junction with Bracebridge Street at shortly after midnight.
At shortly after midnight a male and a female were approached by two men on a moped near to Lydgate Court. They stole the woman’s handbag and property from the man after striking him.
A 23-year old man was arrested on Wednesday morning (20 June) in connection with these incidents. Police have been granted an extension of detention and he remains in police custody at this time.
Anyone with any information about the robberies, or anyone who saw two males on a moped around Nuneaton late on Tuesday or early on Wednesday (20 June) are asked to contact Detective Sergeant Todd Lomax at Nuneaton Police Station by dialing the new non emergency number 101, or they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
