WRCI Bedworth Town Centre
The Warwickshire Retail Crime Initiative or as it is more commonly abreviated to as the WRCI, has had a tremendous year over the 2011 period.
We have managed to encourage a number of stores within the Town Centre to become members of the WRCI, to work in unison alongside the Police and NBBC CCTV. This has enabled us to create a safer shopping exerience within Bedworth. All partnership members have identified the most prolific individuals who are committing crime or acting in an anti social manner in their premises at target meetings that we regularly hold.
During our last meeting, all members dicussed the recent offenders and then packages of these individuals, containing photographs and information about the methods they use to commit crime, their behaviour and known risk factors were put together to keep stores updated. The packages also contain information on individuals who have been banned under the scheme from entering member’s premises.
Due to this close partnership we acheived over 40 convictions leading to charges and fixed penalty notices. Not included in this was the recent arrest of a male responsible for 11 offences. This has created a drop in shoplifting figures by 4%.
As previously mentioned in an earlier story, The WRCI received funding from Tesco which was handed over to us by local MP Dan Byles. At the target meetings held, it has been agreed by all members that funding shall go towards supplying further retail radio links to police, to be used on the outskirts of town. This will povide support to the stores and officers located in the Town Centre. Should any stores obtain a fault with their store radios, funding has been agreed to be used for spare links that the Police can allocate. Finally, remaining funding has been designated to producing signage around the Hot-Spot areas of the Town to promote the WRCI. This has been decided with the aim of becoming a deterrent to current and aspiring shoplifters.

Along with the members of the WRCI we strive to maintain the performance of 2012 providing better figures to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in and around Bedworth Town Centre.
