NHW BW NB & NW Successful joint operation between Police & Council staff re rogue scrap metal dealers
Please see the below message from Inspector Pat Devereux of Warwickshire Police:
Dear Partner /Colleague
For information and circulation as appropriate please.
On Friday 2 March 2012, Officers and PCSOs from Nuneaton and North Warwickshire Safer Neighbourhood Teams conducted a joint operation with officers both Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council to tackle rogue scrap metal dealers operating on these areas.
During the day officers have stopped seven scrap metal collecting vans and have found a number of offences. One vehicle was seized and the driver reported as it was operating without insurance or an MOT. Two fixed penalty notices were issued by Council officers for operating without a waste carriers licence and for not having a waste transfer notice. A number of other vehicle relate doffences have also been dealt with.
"This has been identified as concern to many residents and as metal thefts are an increasing problem to society it is more important than ever to ensure that those people collecting scrap metal are operating within the law. This is not a one off , we will continue to work with partners to stop operators and ensure they are operating within the law"
