Thieves out SmartWatered
Two persistent Warwickshire offenders have recently received custodial sentences after being out SmartWatered during a burglary at Atherstone Football club on 14 January 2007. Police are releasing dramatic images showing how clothes and property at the premises were sprayed with SmartWater after it was activated during the burglary.
The premises had previously been burgled in September 2006 and SmartWater was installed by Warwickshire Police Beating Business Crime Team shortly afterwards as support to the victims who were feeling vulnerable.
On 21 January 2007 two suspects were arrested in the course of normal police enquiries. When at Nuneaton Custody, traces of SmartWater were noted on their clothing confirming the arresting officers' suspicions.
One of those arrested admitted both the burglary in September 2006 and that of 14 January 2007. The other admitted the burglary on the 14 January 2007.
