UPDATED Holidaymakers asked to assist in search for missing person Russell Ward
ISSUED ON BEHALF OF NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE
NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE are appealing to Midlanders to help find Russell Ward, 76, from Stokesley, North Yorkshire, has been missing on the Island of Tilos, near Rhodes, Greece, since Thursday 14 June 2012.
Russell was on a family holiday when he failed to return back to his accommodation after going for a planned walk (he is an experienced and fit walker) on the morning of 14 June.
It is believed he headed along the coast of Gera which lies south of the main port of Livadia. It is possible he may have then headed inland to complete a circular route back to Livadia.
Search and rescue efforts proved unsuccessful and local police are conducting a missing person investigation. This ongoing inquiry is being supported by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Russell's family, who are receiving family liaison support from North Yorkshire Police, have set up Facebook (www.facebook.com/findrussellward ) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/FindRussell ) accounts to help piece together his movements on 14 June 2012.
In particular, they are appealing to UK holidaymakers who were/are on the Island of Tilos to come forward with any information or possible sightings of Russell that could assist the search.
