Nuneaton and Bedworth Independent Advisory Group
The Nuneaton and Bedworth IAG began life about two years ago as a Racial and Religious Incident Review Panel. The panel, consists of the local police and various interested individuals from Moslem, Christian, Hindu, Sikh and Bahá'í religions as well as others from backgrounds concerned, for instance, with Racial Harmony and a Housing Association. The panel built up a relationship that enabled the discussions to grow into areas that were not strictly Racial or Religious. The result is that now we can discuss a range of incidents. We recently established ourselves as a IAG and the police are happy, even encourage us, to challenge them about policy and actions.
We know we need to expand our membership and we need to learn a great deal about the workings of the police service. Furthermore we want to develop our knowledge of the local social, residential and religious communities and allow the IAG to grow ‘organically’ to function with the local police to make their job more effective.
