Simple steps to prevent burglary and vehicle crime
Simple steps to prevent burglary and vehicle crime
Warwickshire Police is asking members of the public to help them tackle vehicle crime and burglary, simply by taking simple steps to protect their property.
The force has launched a new campaign – Don’t become a victim – to remind people of the easy things they can do to prevent their car or home being broken into.
While people living in the county are less likely to become victims of crime than in many other parts of the country, November and December are months when criminals are more active.
The force has prepared a new leaflet, giving simple tips on both vehicle crime and burglary, which can be viewed on the force website by clicking the link below.
Remove the smudge
Among the items most targeted by car thieves at present are mobile phones and satellite navigation devices. Often, drivers remove the phone or ‘sat nav’ from the car, but leave the cradle on the windscreen or even just a tell-tale circle of smudge which indicates that it was present. Remember to remove the smudge when you remove the cradle!
Burglars know where to look too
When it comes to protecting your home, the force is advising people not to leave spare keys hidden in the garden. Burglars know exactly where to look, so the best advice is to leave them with someone you trust.
If you move home, change the locks and if you are going to be home after dark, use a light on a timer to make your home look occupied.
