National Tacking Drugs Week success and continued public consultation about drug issues
Although detailed analysis is yet to be available, initial findings indicate that Warwickshire Police executed six search warrants across the county, made 17 arrests, issued four street cautions, recovered over £2,000 in cash and quantities of substances believed to be controlled drugs such as cannabis, amphetamines, LSD, cocaine and heroin from the 8-12 June. Two cannabis factories with hydroponic set ups were discovered and disrupted in Rugby.
The total value of drugs seized during the week is unknown at this point due to the difficulty in assessing the purity of substances.
However both Warwickshire Police and Warwickshire County Council believe that engagement goes hand in hand with enforcement. During the week members of the public around the county had opportunity's to discuss concerns about drug use and get advice at a series of events which took place in Nuneaton and Bedworth and Rugby.
In Leamington the Leamington South Safer Neighbourhood Team visited Kingsway School to talk to pupils about the dangers of drugs and in Nuneaton and Bedworth over 100 people visited information stands at Nuneaton and Bedworth markets to request specific information.
To continue the dialogue between the public and public service providers, Warwickshire County Council are extending their online survey until 30 June in order to gain greater understanding of the public concerns about drug use. The survey which takes just a few minutes to complete is available online at www.warwickshire.gov.uk/nationaldrugsweek.
Much information that led to arrests during the week came from members of the public and Warwickshire Police want to encourage people to continue coming forward with information. If you suspect someone you know if using drugs or a house near you is being used to cultivate or sell drugs contact Warwickshire Police on 01926 415000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 where the information can be given anonymously.
