Warwickshire's Chief Constable, Keith Bristow explains the vital role of Safer Neighbourhood teams in protecting our communities from harm.

"Warwickshire Police introduced Safer Neighbourhood local policing teams across Warwickshire in November 2006 - well in advance of the Home Office deadline of March 2008, clearly demonstrating our commitment to delivering more protection to the communities we serve.

Local communities asked for a more visible presence and we are delivering this. Our teams are proving effective in tackling anti-social behaviour and, working in the heart of the communities they police, are best placed to offer reassurance where it’s needed.

Teams include Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Special Constables. Every member of the team is visible, accessible and have the skills and experience to identify and address local issues to ensure that communities are safe places to live, work and visit.

Key to the success of the Safer Neighbourhood initiative is the involvement of our local partners. Together with Safer Neighbourhood teams, they are committed to addressing local and force-wide concerns that impact upon quality of life. Our Safer Neighbourhood teams work with many partners from the wider community, many of them volunteers like our Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, who are willing to give up their time to help make their communities safer.

As part of this, they are actively involved in the local Community Forum process, where local people are share their concerns, police related or otherwise. The Community Forum panel, comprising members of the Safer Neighbourhood team, local partners and community members, then looks at positive ways of addressing the priority issues, with progress reported back at subsequent meetings. The relevant team pages of this Safer Neighbourhood website are also updated regularly with details of these local priorities and actions.

Our aim is for everyone living or working in Warwickshire to know the name of their local Safer Neighbourhood team and how to contact them. This could be via email or telephone. Full details are listed under the relevant team section of this website.

I believe that Safer Neighbourhoods is the way forward and we aim to build on our successes and to actively look for new ways to engage with a wider cross-section of our local communities. With a greater understanding, we can achieve greater levels of protection and offer increased levels of reassurance.

If it matters to you, it matters to us - so let us know your concerns and we can work together with you and our partners to make a real difference within our local communities.”
